One arrested, goods worth over 10 million shillings recovered

Police in Nairobi are holding one suspect in connection with assorted cooking appliances believed to have been stolen.  

According to police, the consignment had been stolen while on transit from the port of Mombasa to Malindi.

A joint team of detectives drawn from Nairobi and Kilindini are said to have pounced on the suspect in Saika estate within Nairobi County.

The container with the goods worth over 10 Million is suspected to have been diverted by the driver who in collaboration with others failed to deliver the goods to the intended recipient, claiming that the truck had developed mechanical problems at Kikambala, along the busy Mombasa-Malindi highway.

It is after the consignee made a report at Kilindini Police Station when investigations over the disappearance commenced, leading to the recovery of the shipment.

One suspect, Francis Victor Karua Gathii, was arrested and is now in custody assisting detectives with investigations. The operation was spearheaded by detectives from the elite Crime Research & Intelligence Bureau, based in Nairobi Area.

Meanwhile, two suspects have been arrested by detectives for obtaining money from members of the public on the pretext that they would assist them in securing job opportunities. David Thuo Njehia and Kyalo Kilonzo, were arrested along Ngong Road, after defrauding unsuspecting members of the public more than  880,000 shillings.

Posing as employees of the Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company, the duo is said to have been taking advantage of desperate Kenyans seeking employment by promising to offer them jobs in government agencies and state corporations.
