Five police officers from Gigiri Police Station, who were arrested for allegedly assisting in the escape of 13 suspects, have been released on a personal bond of Ksh200,000.

Milimani Principal Magistrate Martha Nanzushi ruled that the prosecution failed to provide compelling reasons to justify detaining the officers for 14 days.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had sought additional days to hold the officers in custody to complete their investigation into the escape of 13 suspects, including the prime suspect in Kware murders, Collins Jumaisi.

However, the court noted that the officers are government employees and are not considered as flight risk.

Hon. Nanzushi further ruled that the officers have cooperated with the ongoing investigation, and there is no indication that they pose a risk of absconding.

The officers were ordered to report to the investigating officer twice a week as probe into the matter continues.
