The Orange Democratic Party has said that it is not eligible for the total sum of Ksh 1.2 billion Political Parties Fund as reported by a section of the media.

Refuting the reports, the Opposition party through a statement said the money is meant for all the 48 political parties eligible for funding in the Political parties Fund kitty.

“It is important to note that the Ksh 1.2 billion shillings is not for the ODM party, but for all the 48 political parties that qualify for funding through the Political Parties Fund (PPF) managed by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties which is the custodian and regulator of all political parties,” ODM Director of Communication Phillip Etale said.

This comes after High Court Judge Justice Enock Chacha Mwita made a ruling on Tuesday based on the petition filed by the opposition outfit challenging the reduction of a sum of Ksh 800 million in the Supplementary Budget One from the initial allocation Ksh 1.2 billion to the Political Parties Fund (PPF).

Reacting to the ruling, ODM said that it was a win for political parties and a step in the right direction towards the growth and strengthening of political parties as institutions for posterity and democracy as stipulated in the Political Parties Act and the country’s Constitution.
