Kagonye Secondary School in Othaya, Nyeri County has been temporarily closed, with all 384 students sent home following a walkout that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, August 31.

According to a police report, the school management and the Sub-County Director of Education decided to release the students today at 7:30AM to ease tensions and prevent potential damage to school property.

The incident, which took place at 2:00AM on Saturday, raised concerns among the school administration and authorities.

A roll call conducted shortly after revealed that several students were unaccounted for.

However, the School Principal, Mr. Francis Wanjohi, has since confirmed that all missing students have been located and are now safely at home.

The incident comes as learning in secondary schools across the country remains paralyzed due to the ongoing teachers’ strike, now entering its second week.

The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) is pushing for the implementation of the 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
