KVDA is among sixteen other State Corporations earmarked for dissolution and merger with other institutions following an audit by the national treasury that has recommended merging, collapsing and restructuring.
They leaders cited several key roles played by the KVDA especially in the North Rift which includes the development of key projects that has since brought warring communities together through the provision of sustainable and transformative projects.
The leaders led by Sigor MP Peter Lochakapong have called on the Government to rescind the move and instead streamline the agency with clear framework.
Lochakapong added that most parts of the North rift have been marginalized by previous regimes which the regional bodies including KVDA moved in to fill the gap.
He added majority of the projects that has impacted positively in the are courtesy of Kerio Valley Development Authority.
West Pokot senator Julius Murgor said that the move will be a big blow to peace efforts in the troubled Kerio Valley region as the area is faced with water shortage which leads to conflicts over scramble for scarce resources along the borders.
Weiwei Farmers Association Chairman Mark Meut added that following the proposal to disband the authority that has been in existence for more than four decades will affect 10,000 to 20,000 residents that directly and indirectly benefit from the regional body.
Meut appealed to President William Ruto to stop the disbandment process.
The regional body(KVDA) covers several counties across Northern Kenya which was founded in 1979 to guide the development in the region.
