A Ksh. 2.2 billion tax evasion case against the the recently appointed Chairperson of the Board of Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) Mary Wambui and her daughter has been withdrawn.
In a judgment delivered by Chief Magistrate Felix Kombo, lawyers representing the two, Nelson Havi and Adrian Kamotho, did not object to the withdrawal application.
Kenya Revenue Authority made the decision to withdraw the case following successful compounding of offences on December 6, 2022 and the subsequent payment of the fines imposed.
In a letter dated December 21, the taxman consented to the compounding of the said charges.
The two had been charged with eight counts under the Tax Procedure Act, 2015.
Wambui's appointment as CA Board Chairperson was done by President William Ruto last year.
