Machakos University closed indefinitely over unrest

Machakos University's main campus has been closed indefinitely following student unrest that was spiked with cases of insecurity and the shooting of one student Tuesday.

University's Vice-Chancellor Lucy Irungu in a memo released Wednesday instructed all the students to vacate the Machakos-based institution with immediate effect.

The VC said, the decision was reached during a special meeting convened by the university management Wednesday morning, where the board resolved to close down the varsity for security reasons until further notice.

The closure comes after one student who was shot Tuesday during street battle with police succumbed Wednesday morning at a Machakos hospital.
