Seven current and former Nakuru County officials have been arrested over the irregular awarding of a Ksh 7.9 million tender for the construction of Kiratina Market.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission says three more suspects are being pursued in relation to the allegations.

The seven include the daughter of former Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri, Edith Wanjiru who served as a Chief Officer for Trade, Industrialization, and Tourism under Former Governor Lee Kinyanjui's administration.

Those still employed by the county include procurement officers Jackson Maingi and Anne Njeri, accountant Nickson Kibet and tourism officer Florence Karanja who worked under the trade department.

The EACC also arrested Edith Wangari and Jane Njoki who are directors of Levi Contractors, the company awarded the tender.

EACC South Rift Regional Director Ignatius Wekesa stated that the contractor was not registered with the National Construction Authority (NCA) and failed to submit a valid Tax Compliance Certificate with investigations revealing that its certificate had expired before the tendering process.
