The Commission on Administrative Justice (Office of the Ombudsman) has instructed the Director of the National Registration Bureau (NRB) to respond within seven days to issues raised about delays in issuing Identification Documents (IDs).
This directive follows numerous complaints highlighted across various media platforms.
“Pursuant to Section 8 of the Commission on Administrative Justice Act, 2011, the Commission acknowledges the serious complaints reported concerning delays in the processing and issuance of ID cards,” stated the Ombudsman.
Media reports indicate that parents and students enrolling in higher learning institutions are facing significant challenges due to these delays, which are impacting their ability to access essential services such as Higher Education Loans Board financing, travel documents, and employment opportunities.
The Commission has requested that the Director of NRB address the following in their response:
1. The challenges currently facing the department in processing and issuing ID cards.
2. Any measures the department has implemented to address the delays.
3. Expected timelines for issuing the pending ID cards.
4. Service delivery timelines related to the issuance of ID cards.
The Commission emphasizes the urgency of these matters to ensure timely resolution and improved service delivery.
