Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen has expressed his excitement and gratitude for his recent appointment as the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration by President William Ruto.

Murkomen, a former Senator and prominent political ally of the President, has held three different Cabinet positions since Kenya Kwanza took office in September 2022. He was initially appointed as Cabinet Secretary for Transport, then transitioned to the Sports docket four months ago, before taking on the influential position in the Interior Ministry.

“I’m grateful and honored to have been reassigned by His Excellency the President, as the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Interior and National Administration. Thank you, Mr. President, for this incredible opportunity to serve our great nation in this capacity,” he posted on his X page.

Murkomen replaces Abraham Kindiki Kithure, who has been appointed Deputy President following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua. Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has been holding the position in an acting capacity, and Murkomen is confident he will meet the expectations placed on him by the head of state.

“I look forward to supporting the President in delivering on his national security and administration agenda. In keeping with my oath of office, I undertake to serve with honour and dignity and to perform the functions of my office to the best of my ability,” noted Murkomen.

He assumes the role at a time when statistics from the Ministry indicate that security agencies have improved their performance in addressing various crimes, including terrorism and banditry.
