Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has lashed out at Azimio leader Raila Odinga accusing him of using his community as a shield to pursue selfish interests.

Mudavadi said it was selfish and greedy of the Opposition leader to use poor members of his community to advance selfish interests.

He was speaking Sunday during an inter-denominational prayer and thanksgiving service at Mwatunge Primary School in Mwatate, Taita Taveta County.

The ODM leader has in the recent past called for public protests to decry the high cost of living and push for the repealing of the Finance Act 2023.

The protests have so far left several people dead and scores injured with another round of protests slated for this Wednesday.

Mudavadi spoke at a time former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama has accused Raila of dishonesty in regards to his high cost of living review quest saying the ODM chief is using it as a scapegoat to achieve selfish political interests.

According to Muthama who is also a Commissioner of the Parliamentary Service Commission, PSC, even if prices of commodities come down, the former premier will shift to raising issues like legitimacy of President William Ruto.

“Mr Odinga’s political path is always characterized by changing goal posts of which even if prices of commodities come down today, he will start delegitimizing the Kenya Kwanza administration. Let him not use high cost of living as a scapegoat for his political interests while destroying people’s property,” Muthama said in a statement.

“It is only fair for Raila-led group to give the Head of State time to deliver to Kenyans instead of arm-twisting and intimidating to him to arrest the high cost of living which is as a result of their mess.”
