Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi has lauded Gen- Z’s push for a responsible and accountable government, reiterating on the need for leaders to listen to the youth demands.
The Orange Democratic Movement 3rd time MP also applauded Gen-Z, for creating awareness about people’s responsibility and accountability.
“These young people and Kenyans in general need services. They need to see a responsible government. They need to see responsible leaders because we are not serving the people if you are not responsible.”said Wanyonyi
He was speaking on Monday when he unveilled Westlands Constituency new strategic plan to guide its 2023/24 –2027/28 development agenda.
In a ceremony attended by the area MP, NG-CDF team and constituents, the event further awarded Uwezo Funds to 26 groups, NHIF payments to 200 elderly people and unveiled a team of 120 youth who have completed motor vehicle and motorcycle driving courses.
The strategic plan offers a road map for supporting the socio- economic development of Westlands Constituency.
“The Plan is the product of extensive consultation, collaboration, and comprehensive feedback from our internal and external
stakeholders, in line with Kenya’s 2010 Constitution,” Wanyonyi said.
The stakeholder forums brought together participants from various sectors,the education sector, security sector, business community, youth representatives, community leaders, and the general public.
Empowerment programmes targeting the youth and elderly were initiated in 2018, aiming to generate income for the youth and ensure health security for the elders.
Wanyonyi explained the centrality of conomic empowerment within the broad CDF programming.
Every year, youth groups receive funds through Uwezo Fund to
support their business activities.
“It is our first time to get the Uwezo funds. We are going to get Ksh 50,000. Our current activity is plastic recycling. As a group, we are mitigating problems caused by plastic pollution. We follow three philosophies – recycle, reuse and reduce. This has created employment among youth and women in our community,” Antony Osozi,Chairman, Tushauriane Selfhelp group, Kangemi.
More youths are sponsored through driving school to ensure they have the needed licenses to operate in the transport sector. “ We are appreciative of the support and youth empowernment from Hon. Tim Wanyonyi’s office. I have qualified and gotten
my driving certificte today,” Judy Becky Ayacko, Westlands resident.
“We target the elderly too by paying for their NHIF fees,” added Wanyonyi.
