KCB FC booked their place in Mozzart Bet Cup final after edging out Kariobangi Sharks 4-2 via post match penalties during their semi final encounter at Police Sacco Stadium.

The two teams could not be separated after added time and spot kicks were used to decide the winner.

In regular time KCB had taken a late lead through Derrick Otanga’s 77 minute strike. Kariobangi Sharks pulled level two minutes later through Fortune Omotto.

KCB head coach Bernard Mwalala was impressed with his charges praising them for sticking to the plans.

‘’We did block the flanks and used the counter attacks even looking at the Otanga’s goal it was through the counter attack so I think our game plan went well and we finally got a win’’, Mwalala remarked.

The team now switches the focus to its preparations for the June final.

‘’After falling off the league’s title race we switched our attention to this cup and now we just have one step before we get that special chance to represent the country in Caf Confederations Cup matches. We are heading to the break and we will go and work on the few grey areas’’ Mwalala added.

His opposite number William Mluya admitted his second half tactics was one of the reasons the team was unable to get past their opponents.

‘’I will take the blame as the coach , maybe I thought it was ok especially in the second half when I got it wrong tactically’’,Mliya said.

Meanwhile the second semi final pitting AFC Leopards against Police Fc which was abandoned in the 60th minute  will be replayed Monday May 27th at Police Sacco Stadium from 11am.

The game will be played from the minute at which the play was interrupted. Football Kenya Federation Leagues and Competitions’ committee in statement said the match will be played Monday after second assistant referee  was hit by an object ‘hurled’ from the crowd.

The statement from the committee reads in part:

During the match, at the 60th minute, a fan hurled a stone at the Second Assistant Referee. Due to safety concerns, the referees retreated to the dressing room for treatment. When the officials intended to resume the match, it was already dark, and Police Sacco. Stadium does not have floodlights, making it impossible to continue the game.

According to regulations of the cup competition they allow for replay either fully or from the minute of the interruption.

In accordance with Articles 5.1 and 5.2 of the FKF Mozzart Bet Cup regulations, which state:

5.1 If a match cannot start or cannot be played in full, or remaining match time, as a rule, the

5.2 In case a match is abandoned, and the Organizing Committee decides a continuation of

play, the match shall recommence with the same score at the minute at which play was interrupted. For avoidance of doubt, the Organizing Committee may decide a full replay ofthe match that was abandoned.
