Mixed results for Team Kenya at the Olympic beach volleyball qualifiers

The national women’s beach volleyball team duo of Gaudencia Makokha and Naomi Too began their CAVB Women beach Continetal Cup on a winning note after beating Gambia two set to nil of 21-9 and 21-16.

The tournament acting as the final Paris Olympic Games qualifier is being held in Martil, Morocco.

The team will hope to prevail over Nigeria in their second group match. In other women’s results Cape Verde beat Nigeria 2-0 while Cameroon lost to Ghana with a similar score margin.

Meanwhile the Kenya men’s team consisting Brian Melly and Edward Kibet was unlucky in their opening match after losing two sets to nil to Mauritius.

The Kenyan team lost the first set 21-16 and despite putting up a spirited fight in the second set they were unable to overturn the deficit losing 21-16 to their more agile opponents.

The Kenyan men will be out to bounce back when they play Cameroon,Togo and Botswana in group D while the women’s team will take on Nigeria in pool B. The winners of the tournament will earn slots at the 2024 Paris Olympic games.
