The office of the Migori County Woman Representative, in collaboration with the Turkish government has established a factory to manufacture reusable sanitary towels in the region.
According to Migori County Woman Representative, Fatuma Mohammed, the production of the sanitary products will enhance menstrual health and improve accessibility for teenage girls and young women from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The legislator noted that many young girls in remote areas of the county face menstruation-related challenges, often leading to early marriages and teenage pregnancies.
Fatuma said the factory will help supplement the government’s supply of sanitary towels to public primary schools, which has decreased over the past two years.
Yasmin Cansuz, a representative from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency, emphasized that the partnership with the Woman Representative’s office aims to support vulnerable communities and promote social protection.
She added that the sanitary products are environmentally friendly, as they are made from biodegradable materials.
In addition to producing sanitary towels, the factory is expected to create job opportunities in the region.
