Migori County Assembly has approved an appropriation bill for the 2024/2025 fiscal year, allowing its administration to commence its budget utilization from July 1st, 2024.
Following the passage of the bill, Mr. Christopher Rosana, the Speaker of the Migori County Assembly, emphasized their commitment to ensuring responsible use of the 2024/2025 budget.
He highlighted that the budget incorporates community projects proposed during public participation by the people of Migori.
The total budget approved for the 2024/2025 financial year is Ksh 10.38 billion, with Ksh 6.94 billion allocated for recurrent expenditure and Ksh 3.44 billion for development purposes.
Funding for the budget, amounting to Ksh 8.34 billion, will come from sources including the equitable share from the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA), revenue collected through taxes in Migori County, and donor contributions.
Key allocations in the budget include Ksh 2.5 billion for the Department of Health, Ksh 1.03 billion for the Migori County Assembly, and Ksh 920 million for the Department of Roads, Transport, and Public Works.
The Department of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries Development has been allocated Ksh 777 million, while the Finance and Economic Planning Department will receive Ksh 985 million.
Additionally, the County Departments of Education, Youth, Gender, and Social Services; Trade, Tourism, and Cooperative Development; and Water and Energy have been allocated Ksh 618 million, Ksh 486 million, and Ksh 549 million respectively.
The Department of Public Service Management has been allocated Ksh 778 million, while the Department of Environment and Natural Resources will receive Ksh 468 million. The Department of Land and Physical Planning has been allocated Ksh 203 million in the 2024/2025 county budget.
