Police in Meru County have arrested three key suspects linked to the manufacture and sale of illicit brew in Nkubu following a tip-off from members of the public.
During the operation, the multiagency security team recovered over 700 litres of ethanol, fake KRA stickers, over 2,000 empty bottles and battle caps, cartons and some apparatus believed to be used in manufacturing the liquor.
According to Mary Mwangi the Imenti South Deputy County Commissioner, the multi-agency security team also found packed liquor which was ready to be dispatched to the market.
One suspect is said to have escaped but police managed to net one person who was found at the house, and also the caretaker of the said house and the landlady.
The trio are in Nkubu police custody.
The Deputy County Commissioner noted that the substandard liquor allegedly manufactured by the businessmen had put many lives at risk since the product lacked necessary certifications.
The Deputy County Commissioner cautioned the residents against consuming cheap liquor and warned that the war against illicit brews will continue until the desired results are achieved.
