Mandera Governor presides over book launch to celebrate youth talent

Mandera Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif Sunday presided over the official launch of The Generation of Today and 99 Other Poems, a compelling collection of contemporary poetry by 15-year-old Abdullahi Alim Hajji.

Abdullahi, a student at Mandera Secondary School, in the book addresses a broad spectrum of societal themes, including marriage, religion, politics, love, life, death, and the supernatural.

The young author has previously co-authored acclaimed anthologies such as Boundless Voices and The Voice of Poets, cementing his position as a rising literary figure in the region.

During his address to parents and students, Governor Khalif reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to nurturing and developing local talent.

He pledged continued support for creative and intellectual pursuits and reaffirmed the county’s dedication to promoting education for all (Elimu kwa Wote).

“We are determined to create opportunities for our youth, empowering them to explore and excel in their talents,” said Governor Khalif.

“Our government is committed to rolling out ambitious programs aimed at equipping young people with the tools to enhance their lives and secure a brighter future.”

The event also featured remarks from Elyas Abdi, the Director General of the Ministry of Education, who urged parents and the community to prioritize education as the foundation for progress.

“In today’s world, education is indispensable,” said Elyas Abdi. “It equips children not only for future success but also to navigate daily challenges. It is the cornerstone of personal and community development.”

The book launch was celebrated as a milestone for Mandera County, signaling the emergence of a vibrant literary and artistic culture.

The Governor announced plans to enhance library facilities and roll out programs aimed at cultivating a reading culture among students.
