The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) is demanding an immediate investigation into the alleged abduction and murder of Wajir County Member of the Assembly (MCA) for Della Anole Ward, Yussuf Hussein Ahmed.

His mutilated body was discovered three days ago after he had been missing for over a month. Witnesses reported that the body showed signs of severe torture, extensive burns, and brutal beating.

“We demand an immediate, thorough, and independent investigation into the abduction and murder of Hon. Yussuf Hussein Ahmed. We urge the Director of Public Prosecutions to exercise his powers under Article 157(4) of the Constitution and direct the Inspector General of Police to urgently conduct investigations to apprehend and prosecute all those involved in this heinous crime,” said LSK President Faith Odhiambo.

The LSK has condemned the incident, pledging to monitor the case closely to ensure that justice is pursued and served.

“The LSK strongly condemns this extrajudicial killing, which not only violates the rule of law but also instils fear and insecurity in the public. The perpetrators must be brought to justice without delay to restore confidence in our justice system,” she added.

According to Ahmed’s family, he was abducted by unknown assailants on Friday, September 13, 2024, around 8:00 p.m. along Enterprise Road in Nairobi.

They claimed he was forcibly removed from his taxi by heavily armed men in two unmarked Land Cruiser Prados and taken to an unknown location. The incident was reported to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at Makadara Police Station.

Subsequently, the LSK became an interested party in a criminal case and on September 26, 2024, the court ordered the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the DCI to either produce Ahmed in court or provide an explanation for his absence if he was in custody.

Although the DPP and DCI appeared in court, LSK says they failed to comply with the order to produce the MCA and was preparing to file contempt of court proceedings when news of his tragic death broke.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Hon. Ahmed. We stand in solidarity with them and the people of Wajir County during this difficult time. May his memory inspire renewed vigilance in the fight for justice and the rule of law in Kenya,” the LSK stated.
