Kenyan romantic comedy “Love and Coffee” will exclusively premiere on Wednesday night, offering media and crew members a first look at the film ahead of its public release on Valentine’s day.
Directed by Kenji Gatheca and written by Gathoni Kamau, the film promises a heartfelt and Kenyan take on love, relationships, and Nairobi’s vibrant coffee culture.
Starring Khula Budi and Wambui Ngugi in the lead roles, “Love and Coffee” follows a charming, caffeine-fueled love story set against the backdrop of Nairobi’s bustling café scene. Portions of the film were shot at the iconic Nairobi Java House, adding an authentic local touch to the romantic narrative.
Ms. Priscilla Gathungu, the Java House CEO said that the company’s policy hinged on supporting creative endeavours.
“We are excited to support this film partnership with Find My Africa, which aligns perfectly with Java House’s DNA of working with local creatives, talents, entrepreneurs, and businesses alike to support their endeavours. On the surface, each of our locations across the region Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda is decorated with artwork by local artists.
“Behind the scenes, we source our fresh produce, including coffee, from local farmers, and this collaboration presents yet another opportunity to support home-grown talent.”
The premiere, at Century Cinemax, will bring together cast members, filmmakers, and industry insiders with an expected Q&A session after the screening.
According to the film’s synopsis follows the lovebirds Sarah and Felix. It reads as follows:-
“Sarah, a passionate barista, and Felix, heir to a wealthy empire, navigate a whirlwind romance against family expectations, shadows from the past, and social class divides, ultimately striving to revolutionize Kenya’s coffee industry and prove that love transcends all barriers.”
Speaking about the new film, David Mudachi, the executive producer, said: “Love and Coffee” is more than just a love story.
“It’s a story about the courage to follow your heart and fight for what’s right, even when the world seems determined to divide you. We wanted to explore not just the romantic tension, but the bigger questions of class, power, and the legacies we choose to leave behind.”
He added: “We have chosen to partner with Java House, as it is a brand that truly embodies the ethos of the film—supporting that which is homegrown.”
For fans of romance and comedy, “Love and Coffee” officially opens to the public on February 14, making it a perfect Valentine’s Day watch.
Screenings will take place at Century Cinemax, with additional screenings at Nyumba Cinema at the Rosslyn Riviera Mall.
