The National Assembly Justice and Legal Affairs Committee now wants the president to suspend the Vice Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Juliana Cherera and three other commissioners after finding four petitions seeking their ouster valid.

The recommendation are contained in a  report that was tabled on the floor of the house Thursday morning by the Chair of the committee George Muragara.

The report is however expected to be debated later in the house before a concrete decision is reached.

If the house approves the report as is, the president is expected to form a tribunal  that  shall investigate the matter expeditiously, report on the facts and make a binding recommendation to the President, who shall act in accordance with the recommendation within thirty days.

According to article 251 of the constitution a person suspended is however  entitled to continue to receive one-half of the remuneration and benefits of the office while suspended.

The four petitioners  accused the vice chair and three other commissioners of incompetency, gross misconduct and violation of the constitution during the August 9th General Election where they distanced themselves from the presidential results announced by the IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati.
