A business lobby group is calling for more support for women in the region to fully realize their potential in trade and investment.

The East African Women in Business Platform says women play a vital role in the economic, social, and political development of the East African Community calling for a need to bridge the gender gap in business.

Speaking at the close of a two-day capacity building workshop on Branding, Packaging, Digital Marketing, and E-commerce skills of women entrepreneurs in agribusiness, which was supported by GIZ Business Scouts, Chairperson Elizabeth Thande said the training sought to equip participants with digital marketing skills, enabling them to connect with potential customers through the internet and other digital communication channels

“ There is need to connect women entrepreneurs with experienced mentors in branding, packaging, digital marketing, and e-commerce to foster knowledge sharing, collaboration, and mentorship opportunities so as to increase understanding of current global trends in branding, packaging, sales, marketing, and customer relationship management.” Said Thande.

The East African Women in Business Platform (EAWiBP) is a forum that brings together business and professional women from across the East African Community (EAC) and works towards increasing women’s participation in business, improving their economic contributions, and progressing women-owned enterprises from informal to formal status.
