The Nairobi Single mothers lobby group has lauded the Nairobi County government for launching the Dishi na County school feeding program.

The group says the program, which was launched last year where each pupil pays five shillings to benefit from 650 grams of a hot meal each school day, has increased attendance, performance and enrollment to schools.

Addressing the press on Monday, the group hit out at those it accused of opposing the program questioning their intention.

“We cannot tolerate corruption and misconduct in our government institutions, especially when it affects the most vulnerable members of our society.” said Hadijja Muhia, the Lobby group chairperson.

The Dishi Na County program is a school feeding initiative to provide over 200,000 primary school and ECDE learners in public schools within Nairobi County with nutritious meals.

The target is to feed all learners with each pupil consuming 650 grams of a balanced hot meal each school day with each pupil paying 5 shillings to ensure ownership.
