The national women’s rugby sevens team Lionesses beat Samoa 20-5 in their opening group D match of the Sevens Challenger series at Athlone Stadium,Cape Town South Africa.
Impressive Grace Okulu scored three tries Naomi Amugumi crossed the white line once to help Kenya to the emphatic win.Samoa scored their lone try through Maria Nikolao as Saelua Leaula missed the conversion.
Samoa would go on to lose their second match after suffering a 31-19 loss to Poland.Kenya is set to play Poland in its second Group D match today at 7PM east Africa Time.
Cape town is hosting the opening two legs with the second round slated next weekend.
After the second leg next weekend,the top eight ranked teams will progress to the third and final tournament in April in Krakow , Poland where the four men and women’s teams with the most cumulative points across the three rounds will qualify for the HSBC sevens playoff in Los Angeles in May this year.
