Lionesses ready for Africa Cup as Murunga names squad

Kenya Women’s 15’s Rugby team  Head coach Paul Murunga has named a 28 member squad ahead of this year’s Rugby Africa Cup scheduled for  4-12 May in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

The Kenya Lionesses are expected to leave the country on Thursday for the Continental assignment.

Natasha Emali will captain  the side that has thirteen inclusions from the team that did duty at the World Rugby WXV3 competition in Dubai, last year.

The changes are necessitated by lionesses participation in the final round of the world Rugby sevens Challanger series set for 18-19 may in Krakow Poland.

The experienced Linet Moraa returns to the Lionesses squad alongside Helsa  Khisa and Diana Awino while Jane chanya, Sheila wesa, Mitchell Atieno, Mitchell Alivista, Refa Ochando, Hellen Achieng, Elizabeth wekesa, Nholin Khaleyi ,Carol Nyamwamu and Hellen Anyango were handed maiden call ups.

This year’s Rugby Africa Women’s cup will be played on a round robin basis and features defending champions South Africa, Kenya ,hosts Madagascar and Cameroon.

The winner at the end of the tournament on May 12 will not only qualify for the 2025 World Cup in England but will also book their place in the WXV 2 tournament later this year.
