Shakira and Gerard Piqué

Shakira’s diss track about her ex-partner footballer Gerard Piqué cheating on her has broken YouTube records for the most-watched Latin song 24 hours after release.

The video for “Out of Your League” was watched more than 63 million times in 24 hours and currently has over 120 million views.

Shakira joins a hallowed list of Latin performers to break YouTube records - including J Balvin, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee.

Shakira, 45, separated from former Barcelona footballer Pique, 35, in 2022 after more than 10 years together. The pair also have two children together.

This four-minute pop song is the first time Shakira and Argentinian producer and DJ Bizarrap have worked together. The song was posted on the DJ’s channel and is currently trending in Kenya on YouTube at number 21.

It's not her first song about the breakup - “Monotonia” came out three months ago but was more of a heartbreak song than a diss track. In the song, Shakira sings about Pique's new alleged 23-year-old partner.

She says she is "worth two 22-year-olds" and compares the relationship to swapping "a Ferrari for a [Renault] Twingo" and a "Rolex for a Casio" in Spanish.

However, Piqué has been using the lyrics to his advantage ever since the song was released. Piqué has responded to those lyrics by persuading Casio to become sponsors of his football competition Kings League. He also turned up to a Kings League event in a Twingo car with a video of his arrival in the Twingo gaining more than 60,000 likes on Twitter within an hour.

The pair released a statement when they split in June last year, saying they were focusing on co-parenting their children Milan, nine, and Sasha, aged seven.
