Kajiado Governor Joseph ole Lenku has issued a stern warning to county employees who have begun campaigning for various elective positions.
While addressing the press in his office, Lenku highlighted that the early campaigns currently taking place in the county are disrupting service delivery to Kajiado residents and creating disharmony.
“I have observed that early campaigns have commenced within the county, particularly among elected leaders and those working in my office. Their actions threaten to undermine service delivery to the people. We have been in office for only two years and four months, meaning there is still ample time to serve Kajiado residents before the 2027 general election,” Governor Lenku stated.
He condemned individuals forming political alliances prior to the official campaign period, labelling their actions as prioritizing self-interest over the needs of the wananchi.
“The role of a leader is to serve those who elected them. I urge all elected officials to prioritize service to the people as we focus on delivering on the commitments we made to them. When the time for campaigning arrives, we will discuss our strategy as Team Lenku and alongside national leaders,” remarked the governor.
He stressed the importance of delivering on his four-point agenda for the people of Kajiado, which includes modulated pastoralism, livable towns, globally competitive education, and a climate-proofed physical environment.
“We still have two years and four months left to serve Kajiado residents, but if you wish to engage in politics now, you may as well resign from your position and pursue that path,” warned Governor Lenku.
This warning follows a visit by several senior county employees from the office of the governor and various Members of the KajiadoCounty Assembly to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County. This visit is perceived as an attempt to form political alliances ahead of the 2027 general election.
Among the Kajiado leaders who paid a courtesy call on the former Deputy President were MP Onesmus Ngogoyo (Kajiado North) and MCAs Joshua Olowuasa (Kaputiei North) and Abraham Osoi (Matapato North).
Other politicians present included Moses Birisha (aspirant for Kajiado Central), Daniel Kanchori (Senate aspirant and current legal advisor to the county), James Lesere (former MCA of Dallalekutuk Ward), and Peter Tirishe (MCA of Mosiro).
