The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) Nairobi County Chapter has partnered with the Boda Boda Association of Nairobi to launch an initiative aimed at reducing accidents within the sector.

In a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the two organizations, the initiative will include first aid training and road safety programs aimed at reducing fatalities and enhancing safety awareness.

According to data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), approximately 11,500 crashes involving boda bodas are recorded each year.

“We have signed a partnership and MOU with the Boda Boda Association with the aim of reducing accidents. We partnered with the Kenya Chamber of Commerce Healthcare Committee to offer first aid training, and I call upon Kenyans of goodwill to join hands with us,” said Dr. Maxwell Okoth, Chairman of the KNCCI Nairobi County Health Sector.

On his part, Alex Kulema, Chairman of the Boda Boda Association of Nairobi noted that the boda boda industry, which employs thousands across Nairobi, has long struggled with safety concerns.

“This partnership comes as a relief to many riders. We are very thankful for the support in training services that are focused on saving lives,” he said.

Chairman of KNCCI Nairobi County, Dr. James Mwaura lauded the collaboration saying the boda boda sector has been neglected for too long while calling for more trainings and partnerships to streamline the sector.

The program will roll out in phases, with safety and first aid training taking priority, followed by additional healthcare services for the riders and their families.

The training will be provided by healthcare professionals and supported by the KNCCI Healthcare Committee.
