Kipyegon nominated for Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year Award

Double 1500m Olympic Champion Faith Kipyegon has been nominated for the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year Award during the 25th  edition of the most prestigious award set for Madrid on April 22, 2024.

The three-time world champion over the 1500-meter distance is among the six female shortlisted athletes for the gong after becoming the first woman to win  gold medals in both 1500m and 5,000m at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest last year in Hungary.

She also broke three world records in a span of one month.

Kipyegon has been nominated alongside World Champions Sha’Carri Richardson of the USA, Jamaican Shericka Jackson, French Open champion Poland’s Iga Świątek, Spanish World Cup winner Aitana Bonmatí, and American Mikaela Shiffrin, who won her seventh World Championship gold in giant slalom Alpine skiing.

The reigning Olympic champion was also named the World Athlete of the Year in track events in 2023 following her stellar performance.
