Kibiwott Kandie suspended provisionally for breaching anti-doping rules

Kenya’s Kibiwott Kandie, a former world half marathon record holder has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit, AIU, due to violation of anti-doping rules.

A statement from AIU stated: ‘’The AIU has provisionally suspended Kibiwott Kandie (Kenya) for evading, refusing or failing to submit to sample collection’’.

The 28-year old Kandie, who won the Valencia Half Marathon in 2020 in new world record of 57:32 must clear his name of the allegations.

Kandie won silver at the 2020 World Half Marathon Championships and won  Prague, Istanbul, and Ras al Khaimah half marathons.

Kandie was on the starting line at this year’s Kenya Defence Forces Cross Country Championships where he won the senio men’s 10km race.

Kandie’s suspension brings to three the number of Kenyan athletes who have been suspended in 2025 for violating anti doping rules.Marathoner Brimin Miso Kipruto and 2024 Nairobi Standard Chartered Marathon winner  Ronald Kimeli Kurgat  who were both suspended after banned substance was found in their blood samples.
