Kenya earned a total of Ksh 452.2 billion from tourism industry last year which representing a 20 percent increase when compared to Ksh 377.5 billion reported in 2023.
Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano says the number of international tourists rose to 2.4 million fuelled by aggressive marketing campaigns, tourism product diversification and new scheduled flights.
Tourism is the second-largest foreign exchange earner for Kenya after the agriculture sector which earns Kenya about 70pc of her Gross Domestic Product.
The United States of America was Kenya’s top tourist source market, accounting for 12.8pc of total arrivals, followed by Tanzania and Uganda.
There were 975,883 tourists from Africa accounting for 40.8pc of total international arrivals.
Bed night occupancy increased 12pc to 5.17 million in 2024.
According to Miano Kenya targets to net 3 million international tourists and increase earnings to at least Ksh 560 billion.
