Lamu Old Town is perhaps the oldest and best-preserved Swahili settlement in Kenya. The ancient town that was built in the fourteenth century is located on the East African coast.

It’s one of the places where early Chinese mariners made contact with East African merchants through the ancient Maritime Silk Road.

Today, the new maritime Silk Road is a key component of the Belt and Road Initiative.
