Kenya Railways struggles to meet demand for passenger services as schools reopen

The Kenya Railways now says it is overwhelmed by the demand for passenger services over the last two days as learners return to school for the second term.

In a statement, the corporation noted that the surge has stretched its resources to their limit despite introducing measures to manage the situation.

“The Corporation further wishes to advise the public that we had already introduced additional coaches in both economy and first class to accommodate the students who had booked earlier before the postponement of the school opening dates,” the statement reads in part

The influx in passengers was particularly witnessed between Sunday May 12th and Monday May 13th, 2024.

The statement comes after reports emerged on social media that some students who had booked to travel before postponement of the schools reopening missed their seats.

The Corporation has however assured that all necessary steps are being taken to ensures that no passengers, including students are left behind and that all students arrive safely at their various destinations.

“We assure all our customers that the Corporation is doing everything possible to ensure that no passengers, including students are left behind and that all students arrive safely at their various destinations.”
