The national U23 soccer team head coach Kennedy Odhiambo says the team will be facing their second group opponents with a spring in their step after their morale boosting 2-0 win against Zambia in their opening match of the in progress COSAFA Cup.
Kenya will face Comoros Sunday from 1pm east Africa time at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth,South Africa before winding up its group B campaign against Zimbabwe on Tuesday.
Kenya will be out to follow up the opening win against Comoros who lost their opening game 0-1 to Zimbabwe.
‘’In the first half we knew we had to get early goals so that in the second half, they play infront of us, we realized that their defenders were overlapping a lot so we knew if we get the ball behind them we will get the goals. This win has motivated the players and we are ready for the Comoros game’’,Ken remarked.
A win in the second game will guarantee Emerging Stars a place in the quarter finals of the 12 team showpiece.
‘’We are planning for the Comoros game which God willing if things go well and we get all the points we will be through to quarter finals’’,Said Odhiambo.
The difference of style of football played among teams from East Africa and Southern Africa regions could also play a factor in determining the ultimate winner of the championship with Kenya having to fast adjust,Odhiambo revealed .
‘’Here{Southern Africa} players keep the ball more and they tend to play entertaining football while in East Africa we rely more on speed and strength so we learnt a lot today and we will be going to the drawing board and work on some areas ahead of the second game’’,Odhiambo noted.
Against Zambia Kenya got its goals through Austin Odhiambo from the spot and Philemon Otieno.
