The Kenya Dairy Board is calling upon the legislature to finalise the process of setting the minimum price of milk and gazette the minimum milk price for the long rains season.

Board Chairperson Genesio Mugo says the 50 shillings per litre minimum price is still effective until the new prices are certified by the Ministry of Agriculture.

The government last year set the milk minimum price at 50 shillings per litre to protect farmers from exploitation from dairy processors.

“The new milk farm gate price is meant to shield dairy farmers from fluctuating prices during the anticipated long rains that usually result in a glut.”Mugo said

Speaking at Kinangop dairies during the launch of  five  new yoghurt varieties, Nyandarua Governor Kiarie Badilisha noted that Kenya is eyeing international markets; however, this cannot happen without international certification, which depends on widespread vaccination of livestock. He urged farmers, traders, and industry leaders to support the vaccination programme to secure national certification, enabling global market access and improving economic outcomes.

Noting that his government has been in the forefront in supporting farmers in his area through agricultural extension services and budgetary allocation on agriculture.

According to Kinangop Dairy, CEO Samuel Macharia, the company is committed to evolving with its customers lifestyles. “As we grow, we remain focused on offering innovative products while supporting local dairy farmers and investing in our communities,” he said.
