The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is set to open up roads in Mukogodo Forest, Laikipia County, as part of a multi-agency operation aimed at flushing out criminal elements who have been using the forest as a base to launch banditry attacks in Kerio Valley and Upper Eastern regions.
Speaking during the 8th anniversary of the AIC Makutano Church in North Imenti, Meru County, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen reaffirmed the government’s commitment to restoring security in the affected areas.
He emphasized that security agencies will not relent in their mission to dismantle criminal networks operating within the forest.
Similarly, CS Murkomen sounded a warning those peddling illegal drugs and illicit brews saying government will deal with them.
“The government will not relent in dealing decisively with those found peddling illegal drugs and illicit brews.” Warned Murkomen.
He called on religious leaders to partner with government in the fight against drug abuse and mental health challenges among the youth.
“I called on elected and religious leaders to join hands with the government in the fight against drug abuse and mental health challenges among our youth.”
Adding that: “We must come together s a society and confront the alcohol and substance abuse menace that disproportionately affects our youth. Most antisocial behaviors, such as hateful messaging on social media, stem from underlying mental struggles as a result of substance abuse.”
