Kabras RFC defeats KCB RFC to top Kenya Cup standings as regular season culminates

Kabras Sugar  RFC  finished top of the Kenya Cup standing with a total of 52 points after beating rivals KCB RFC  25-17 in a top of the table Lenya Cup clash at ASK Grounds,Kakamega.

The win meant Kabras have now defeated KCB RFC  fifth consecutive times and extended their unbeaten run to 39 matches.KCB winds up the campaign in second spot with 50 points.

Kenyan international Kelvin Wekesa capitalized on KCB’s error inside their 22 to score a beautiful try before the 10 minute mark.

Kabras 7-0 lead was short lived as Austin Sikutwa scored a try and successfully converted it to level the scores 7-7 for KCB.

Ntabeni Dukisa then scored two penalties after Tyson Maina was penalized to regain Kabra’s  lead.

Griffin Musila responded with another try which was successfully converted by Austin Sikutwa to hand KCB a slim 14-13 lead.

Dukisa, who was lively throughout the encounter  scored another penalty to for Kabras but KCB replied through Austin Sikutwa’s penalty which handed KCB a 17-16 lead.

Dukisa scored a penalty as Kabras led 19-17 at halftime.

KCB failed in their to stage a comeback in the second half as Kabras moved to assure themselves of the win with two more penalties from Dukisa.

“The boys started the game well. In the first half, we put a lot of pressure on Kabras. However, in the second half, we made so many mistakes in our territory that cost us a win. It is time for us to go back to the drawing board and work on the areas we fell short. I am confident we will bounce back stronger and better’’, said KCB RFC Head coach Oliver Mangeni.

Following the conclusion of the regular season Kabras and KCB will await the winners of the play off between teams that were ranked 4-6th in th semifinals.

Menengai Oilers who finished third will face Kenyatta University’s BlakBlad who were placed 6th while Nondies who finished fourth play Kenya Harlequins who were ranked 6th.

The play-off matches are scheduled March 28th .

Kabras RFC and KCB RFC  clash again in the Enterprise cup  semi final scheduled March 15th at the same venue.
