K-Ravens men’s and Women’s Football clubs based in Ndumberi, Kiambu County have expressed their desire to climb up the football tiers and play in top leagues by the end of the season.
The men’s team features in the County league while the ladies side plays in the regional league.
The Club was founded in 2019 by by Grace Karugu and Joseph Kiragu with an aim of giving the youth from the area a sporting chance and an avenue to earn a living through sports.
‘’We came up with this team due to the challenges we were facing in the community. The first challenge was the teen pregnancies and drug abuse.Most of the players cant afford playing kits and come from humble backgrounds.We have the targets and I have expectation that the women’s team will get promoted to division two and the men’s team to go to the regional tier that’s if they top their respective leagues’’ remarked Grace Karugu.
‘’The support will greatly help the team improve its performance of the team.The players will now be able to eat and be ready for the matches’’ added Team Manager Susan Karanja
The teams which are motivated ahead of the new season received footballs, playing kits from a well wisher Thomas Kimari .The donation is expected to aid the teams preparations and participation in the grueling league.
‘’We decided to support these teams to be a blessings to the other teams and motivate the rest of teams and see football as away of an income earner and career and not a social undertaking, having been a footballer I identify with their struggles I will support them in future and I hope that we as Babz Security will allocate a budget to support them in forthcoming CSR budget ’’, said Kimari.
Kimari reiterated his support to the team vowing to continue chipping in throughout the season calling on other wellwishers to come on board and support the club.
He called on the Government to hasten the process of establishing the sports academies in every constituency which he said will help in nurturing the sporting talents in every corner of the country.
