Kenyan journalists and celebrities are mourning the death of CGTN journalist Nick Mudimba who passed away on Sunday night.
Following the news, his last tweet where he urged his followers to support Kenya during the World Cup qualifier continues to gain traction.
“Let’s fill Nyayo Stadium on Sunday. Gambia must fall. There’s something about this Harambee Stars team,” he posted on Friday.
Former colleagues, journalists and media personalities took to social media to pay tribute to the late journalist.
News anchor Zubeida Kananu, shared her shock and grief about the news sharing a moving tribute for her former colleague.
“How did we start referring to each other as “Dungaa”? That’s how I’ve saved your number to date,” Zubeida shared. “You were a joyful soul, deeply passionate about your work, incredibly talented, and had a big heart that embraced everyone. It’s hard to believe you’re gone Nick, but your kindness, laughter, and dedication will always be remembered.”
Sharing a picture of Nick Mudimba, Edith Kimani and herself at work she concluded: “My heartfelt condolences to your family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing you. May you rest in peace.”
Journalist Ferdinand Omondi also shared a tribute to the young reporter calling him the “kindest soul.”
“Gutted to learn about the death of my friend and counterpart Nick Mudimba. One of the kindest souls I ever met, and always ready for a good laugh. Rest in peace, bro,” he wrote.
Journalist Seth Olale also added his voice to the tributes.
“We were together cracking jokes at the AU Media Center in Addis Ababa. You assisted me install the latest Audio Sound Booth Recorder on my laptop. Rest in Peace my brother,” he wrote.
Member of Parliament for Langata, popularly known as Jalang’o shared: “”How do I even start mourning you, my brother… Go well, my kinsman!”
While radio personality, Maina Kageni, called him an enthusiastic journalist.
“Rest in peace, Nick Mudimba. What an enthusiastic journalist you were! My most sincere condolences to friends and family,” Kageni wrote.
Mudimba died after collapsing at his home in Syokimau, Machakos County.
