The Kenyan entertainment scene is grappling with yet another case of a high-profile performance gone awry, this time involving renowned Tanzanian gospel artist Joel Lwaga.

The artist and his team were unable to perform at the highly anticipated Churchill Crossover event held at Nairobi’s KICC Grounds on December 31, 2024.

In a statement issued by Lwaga’s team, the artist expressed deep regret for not taking the stage despite arriving as planned.

The statement cited “significant challenges in the arrangement and organization of the event,” which reportedly failed to meet agreed-upon standards and contractual obligations.

“As ministers of the gospel and professionals, we worked tirelessly and engaged in discussions with the event organizers in an attempt to resolve these issues and proceed with the performance,” the statement read.

“Unfortunately, we were unable to reach an agreement, as the conditions were not conducive for Joel Lwaga to take the stage.”

Lwaga and his team apologized to fans for the disappointment and inconvenience caused, acknowledging the sacrifices made by attendees.

“Your support and sacrifices do not go unnoticed, and we are committed to ensuring that such situations are avoided in the future,” they assured supporters.

This incident adds to a growing trend of high-profile international acts encountering setbacks in Kenya due to poor event management.

From unmet technical standards to logistical failures, artists and fans alike have been left frustrated.

Joel Lwaga’s experience underscores the urgent need for Kenya’s entertainment industry to address systemic organizational shortcomings that risk damaging its reputation as a destination for international performances.

The gospel star concluded his message with a promise to create another opportunity to connect with his Kenyan fans under better circumstances.

“We look forward to ministering to you in a way that reflects the excellence you deserve,” he stated.

As conversations continue about the state of event management in Kenya, both artists and fans are calling for better coordination and professionalism to restore faith in the country’s ability to host seamless and memorable performances.
