JKIA operations unaffected as response teams battle grassland fire

KAA assures operations at JKIA remain unaffected. The cause of the fire has not been disclosed.

Emergency response teams are battling a grassland fire inside Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, along Airport North Road.

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) confirmed that the fire, reported on Friday evening, is confined within non-operational grassland areas and has not impacted critical infrastructure or operations or operational zones of the busy airport.

In a statement, it assured that it was actively managing the fire incident which had affected a section of the grassland surrounding JKIA, and that operations remain unaffected.

“A coordinated response team, including the KAA Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting Service, the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF), and Nairobi County Fire Unit, is working diligently to contain the situation,” it said.

“All airport activities, including flight schedules, passenger processing, and cargo handling, remain fully operational and unaffected. The authority will provide further updates as more information becomes available” KAA added.

However, the cause of the fire has not been disclosed.

The main airports managed by KAA are: -Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Moi International Airport (MIA), Eldoret International Airport (EIA), Wilson Airport (WAP) and Kisumu International Airport (KIA).
