An investigation is underway to determine the cause of a dawn fire that destroyed archived files at the Mavoko Law Courts.

According to a statement by the Judiciary, the fire broke out in a metal container used for archiving closed cases at around 4AM on Friday.

The fire damaged archived files, some ICT equipment, floors, and walls, but did not affect any active case files.

The Fire Department is said to have promptly extinguished the fire by 5AM with the help of Police and judicial staff who secured the area.

“The Judiciary’s ongoing digital transformation, including e-filing and the Ajira programme for digitizing files, aims to mitigate such incidents in the future,” the Judiciary said in the statement.

The statement further indicated that normal operations have resumed and Mavoko Law Courts remain open, and operations continue as usual.
