The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) selection panel will conclude interviews for the chairperson position this afternoon.
Among the 11 candidates shortlisted for the position are three women: Joy Brenda Masinde-Mdivo, Ann Amadi, and Lillian Wanjiku Manegene.
So far, eight candidates have been interviewed, with the final batch including Lillian Wanjiku Manegene (Kirinyaga), Robert Akumu Asembo (Busia), and Saul Simiyu Wasilwa (Bungoma) set to face the panel on Wednesday.
The selection panel, led by Chairperson Dr. Nelson Makanda, is tasked with filling the vacancy left by former electoral chief Wafula Chebukati, who succumbed to brain cancer last month.
The panel has assured the public of a fair and transparent selection process to ensure that individuals of the highest integrity spearhead the 2027 General Election.
The interviews, set to begin at 8:30 AM at the College of Insurance in South C, Nairobi, will be streamed live on KBC Channel 1 and the KBC YouTube channel.
The interviews for the six vacant commissioner positions will begin tomorrow and run until Thursday, April 24, 2025.
Meanwhile, the Archbishop of the Nairobi Catholic diocese, Philip Anyolo, has called on the vetting committee to prioritize finding a just and accountable leader for the position.
Speaking during an event at Mary Help Hospital, a Catholic Church-owned facility, Archbishop Anyolo emphasized the critical role of the new IEBC chair in restoring public trust in the electoral body.
He acknowledged the widespread mistrust among Kenyans towards the IEBC and urged the selection of a leader capable of addressing these concerns.
