Injured students in KU bus accident evacuated to Nairobi, Mombasa

Several students of Kenyatta University who got injured in Monday evening’s
accident at Maungu in Voi, Taita Taveta County have been evacuated to Mombasa and Nairobi for specialized treatment.

There are forty-two students who sustained serious injuries while four had slight wounds.

The University Vice Chancellor Paul Wainaina has in the meantime led a delegation from the University to visit survivors of the accident currently recuperating at Moi Referral Hospital in Voi to assess the extent of the accident.

According to Wainaina, several students in critical condition are currently being evacuated by air and road to Mombasa and Nairobi for specialized medical care.

In a statement Wainaina confirmed that the team which comprises two doctors, medical personnel, university security officers,students and staff wellness officers is expected to assess the situation, assist survivors and provide an accurate report on the incident.

The university had also set up a help desk to offer support to those affected by the incident at the Business Students Service Center Room 151 and can also be reached on Mobile No. 020 2310709 or 0723 352 483 to respond to queries and offer support and assistance.
