The Majority Leader in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah, is calling on the police to effectively enforce the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act.

He said that this action is necessary to address the increasing number of online attacks, particularly those targeted at leaders by certain individuals.

“DCI must make use of the laws that we created and enacted in Parliament back in 2018, specifically The Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act of 2018. All the provisions of that law all are fully in force. All they need to do is to implement that law to end these shenanigans of people insulting each other with impunity imagining nothing can happen to them,” Ichung’wah stated.

“I want to challenge the DCI, kama kuna watu wamefanya makosa ya misuse of computers and cybercrimes, arrest them and make it public that you have arrested people and take them before courts of law so that it becomes a deterrent to those who insult and do very uncouth and uncivilized things,” he asserted.

The Majority Leader insisted that the current situation cannot continue, pointing out that some individuals are exploiting the rights enshrined in the constitution to attack others without justifiable cause.

He also alleged that certain Kenyans, including political leaders, are using recent cases of abductions and enforced disappearances for their own political gain.

“Tusitumie abductions for political expediency. Nimeona wanasiasa wengine huko kwetu (Mt. Kenya), MPs and a few Senators, they are now attempting to bribe the police to arrest them to get public sympathy. Mwingine anajipeleka kwa polisi eti ameitwa na hakuna mtu amemuita. Hizi vitu havitusaidii,” he remarked.

“We have seen people alleging that they have been abducted, or kidnapped and then they show up, all out of political expediency. If anybody alleges to have been abducted, they should be arrested and charged for misuse of their computers and cybercrimes. There are characters who want to use this to incite the people of Kenya,” he said
