News anchor Mary Kilobi, 40, and her husband, COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli, are celebrating the arrival of their first child after seven years.

Ms Kilobi, who recently took a sabbatical from social media to preserve the privacy of her pregnancy, described her journey to motherhood as one filled with patience, prayer, and hope.

“I believe any woman who is able to have a child and it’s God’s will would want to experience that joy. I am constantly surrounded by my nieces and nephews, and now having my own is an incredible feeling,” she stated.

The birth of baby AJ has been a dream come true for her. Reflecting on her personal experience, she mentioned that she did not rely on medical procedures to conceive but trusted in the natural course of events.

“I didn’t go through any medical procedures to conceive. I believe everything happens when it’s meant to. I know people will have so much to say, but I am happy. I have loved children my whole life, and now I finally have my own, my precious AJ.”

Advising women who were having difficulty conceiving Ms Kilobi said she drew inspiration from a biblical story, recalling the account of the Shunammite woman from 2 Kings 4:11-35—a tale of faith and miraculous blessings.

“That story reminded me that God works miracles in His own time. Trust God. It doesn’t matter how long it takes. His timing is perfect. I waited seven years, and now my home is filled with joy. If it can happen for me, it can happen for you too.”

While Mary enjoys her maternity leave and the precious moments with her new baby, her husband Francis Atwoli, currently in Geneva, is eagerly counting down the days until he can welcome baby AJ into his arms.

“Mzee is overjoyed!” Mary revealed, noting that he is returning home on Tuesday.

The couple’s relationship spans decades, with a love story that began when Mary was 21 and working at Uganda Broadcasting Corporation. Atwoli, is in his 70s and has other children.
