Ruto to Kindiki: ‘I need you, I was almost a lonely voice’

President William Ruto has expressed frustration over the lack of support from the impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over the past two years.

Though he did not directly refer to Gachagua by name, it was the first time he was referring to his beleaguered former Deputy since the impeachment onslaught begun.

The Head of State lamented how he almost became a lone ranger in the Presidency while pushing his administration’s transformative agenda.

“My dear Prof. Kindiki, I need your voice. I need your intellect to help me and help members of our Cabinet to profile the things we are doing, to speak to the things we are doing,” said President Ruto during the inauguration of his new deputy, Kithure Kindiki.

“I have almost become a lone voice in the Executive especially in the Presidency. Speaking about our projects, speaking about our programmes, elaborating on what we are doing. You are eloquent my brother, you are intelligent my brother. I am confident that you will do that which I have missed for the last two years.”

Ruto praised Kindiki, referring to him as “Abra K,” the shortened version for Abraham Kindiki, and expressed his relief at having him on board as his second-in-command.

“This moment calls for an individual who takes pride in a job well done, is humble enough to be a loyal servant of the people, is selfless enough to reach out and mobilise the entirety of government towards delivering for Kenya, experienced enough to understand the importance of engaging all sectors of our economy to drive transformation and committed enough to serve professionally, with loyalty and integrity.”

Looking ahead, Ruto pledged that he and his new deputy would deliver on their mandate to serve all Kenyans equally while respecting the rule of law.

We will serve the people of Kenya equally. No region will be left behind. I will call him ‘Abra K’… Abra K, please serve the people of Kenya. We are not here to serve our communities or regions, but the Republic of Kenya. Serve without ill will or fear,” he urged.

The Head of State reiterated that Kindiki was the best choice for the role.

“This moment calls for an individual who takes pride in a job well done, is humble enough to be a loyal servant of the people, is selfless enough to reach out and mobilise the entirety of government towards delivering for Kenya, experienced enough to understand the importance of engaging all sectors of our economy to drive transformation and committed enough to serve professionally, with loyalty and integrity,” he emphasised.

He paid glowing tribute to his abilities, which have positively impacted all spheres.

“I have seen Kithure Kindiki in many capacities; he is a dedicated professional and a champion of our Constitution. I am honoured that he is willing to serve as my deputy. Kindiki is a highly qualified and accomplished scholar, advocate, and public servant whose career has demonstrated a commitment to positive change and high standards of efficiency in his duties.”
