A 29-year-old house help, Fleviar Muhonja Anaya, who had been missing after allegedly stealing Ksh2.2 million from her employer, has been arrested.

The arrest followed a coordinated operation by detectives from the DCI Nairobi Regional Headquarters and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau.

The incident occurred on March 16, 2025, when Muhonja was left alone at her employer’s house. A security guard noticed her leaving with a large, suspicious carrier bag. Upon questioning, she claimed she was delivering an item for her boss.

The guard contacted her employer, who immediately attempted to reach Muhonja, but her phone was switched off.

She then rushed home, only to find that the money was missing.

“Sensing something was not right, since she had not given such instructions, she quickly tried to reach her house help, only to find the phone switched off”, said the DCI on X.

Police immediately launched a forensic-led investigation, tracing Muhonja to Malava, Kakamega County, where she was arrested.

Upon interrogation, she led detectives to Kapsoi, Vihiga County, where Ksh700,000 was recovered from her grandmother’s house.

The operation continued to her rural home in Kipkaren, Uasin Gishu County, where detectives recovered three chain links bought using the stolen cash.

Muhonja further led detectives to Nairobi’s South B, Fuata Nyayo area, where an additional Ksh800,000 was recovered from her rented house.

Muhonja is in custody at the Capitol Hill Police Station, awaiting arraignment.

“Now in custody at Capitol Hill Police Station, Muhonja is undergoing processing as she awaits her day in court”, the detectives said.
