The Igad Climate Predictions and Applications Center (ICPAC) says that more than usual rainfall is expected in Rwanda, Burundi, central to northern Tanzania, western Uganda, western Ethiopia, and parts of southwestern South Sudan.
In its weekly forecast, the ICPAC says that moderate rainfall of between 50 and 200 millimeters is expected over most parts of Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, southwestern Uganda, and a few areas of western Ethiopia.
Rainfall of below 50 millimeters is expected over parts of southern and western Uganda, most parts of South Sudan, southern and western Kenya, a few places in northern Tanzania and parts of central to southwestern Ethiopia.
In the seven day forecast, ICPAC is warning of “flooding in Burundi and few parts of Rwanda, and few areas over eastern and northern Tanzania is likely to lead to isolated flood incidences.”
The specialised institution of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) also warns that temperatures are expected to be warmer than average across most of the Greater Horn of Africa (GHA) region, “with elevated heat stress in most parts of South Sudan, Sudan, eastern Kenya and Tanzania, and southern Somalia.”
“High temperatures of above 32℃elsius is expected over parts of eastern South Sudan, western Ethiopia, and north-western Kenya,” says the statement and adds that, “Moderate to high temperatures of between 20-32℃elsius is expected over most parts of the Greater Horn of Africa.”
Mild temperature conditions of less than 20℃elsius are expected over parts of Ethiopian highlands, central to western Kenya, western Rwanda and Burundi.
