The Ministry of Health has moved to dispel fears the death of two minors and adverse reactions of 23 children during the polio vaccination drive between 2nd to 6th October was as a result of the vaccine.
Director General of Health Dr. Patrick Amoth and officials from the Kenya Paediatric Association, and Kenya National Safety Vaccine Advisory Committee assured the public of the safety of the polio vaccine saying the deaths of the minors and reactions to some of the minors were found to be coincidental.
Those who experienced reactions were resolved over time noting that health events happen around the time of vaccination by chance and are not caused by the vaccine itself.
Amoth has urged parents and caregivers to continue immunizing their children and to participate in the second round of the five-day polio vaccination campaign that kicked of Saturday and is expected to end on Wednesday the 13th of November 2024.
